The Mercy High School Financial Aid program consists of Tuition Assistance and Named Scholarships. Financial aid is awarded annually by the Mercy High School Financial Aid Committee on the basis of financial need and/or the special requirements of the named scholarships. A student may apply for financial aid once enrollment requirements are fulfilled and the tuition deposit is received.
Mercy utilizes the independent review company Private School Aid Service (PSAS) to determine need. Families who wish to be considered for financial aid must:
Complete the PSAS application and forward it with all required documents directly to the Private School Aid Service. The deadline is March 19, 2012. More information can be found at www.psas.org. We are happy to offer families the option of submitting the PSAS application online. CLICK HERE for online application instructions and use school authorization code 1073. You can also CLICK HERE to download the PSAS forms and mail the PSAS form directly to the company. A fee of $24.00 should accompany your PSAS application. PSAS forms are also available in the Advancement Office and there will be a limited number of forms available at the new student registration.
Fill out a Financial Aid Cover Sheet. CLICK HERE for financial aid cover sheet.
Students are required to submit a one page double spaced essay describing themselves and explaining how they exemplify the Mercy Values. The essay and cover sheet should be submitted to the President’s Office no later than March 19, 2012.
A few reminders:
The Archdiocese of Detroit, as a result of the Stewards for Tomorrow Fund, will award assistance grants again this year to Catholic families who qualify. See the Archdiocese website www.aodonline.org for applications and details. We are grateful to Archbishop Allen Vigneron for continuing this program in support of Catholic Education.
Students who have received a Named Scholarship in the previous year are required to reapply each year in order to be considered for renewal.
Students who are awarded a scholarship will be required to write a thank you note to the donor.
* Mercy requires parents and guardians receiving financial aid to sign an agreement for service hours. For every $100 received in financial aid, the expectation is that one hour of service is to be given back to the school by parents and guardians. Parents or guardians are responsible for scheduling, working stated service hours and recording service hours on the Record of Service Hours form. The form is due in the President’s office by March 31, 2012. Failure to return the Record of Service Hours could prevent further consideration for financial aid and/or result in repayment of funds to Mercy High School.
All grants awarded to students will be credited directly to Mercy student tuition account balances.
Families will be notified by the end of June 2012.
* Some volunteer service hour opportunities include:
The Mary Gregory Memorial Scholarship Foundation
The Mary Gregory Memorial Scholarship Foundation (TMGMSF), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was formed to find and support female individuals, driven by passion to reach out to those in need. With primary education being of extreme importance in developing young minds and the cost of that education increasing, TMGMSF will provide scholarships to deserving high school juniors and seniors who have proven academically and through community service, to be exemplary in developing themselves and in helping others. The TMGMSF Scholarship Program seeks to invest in those who are exemplary role models in their community and who have the initiative to fulfill their educational and community service goals. Scholarship aid is available to currently enrolled SOPHOMORES and JUNIORS. CLICK HERE for more details, application requirements, and application form and process
Join the Circle of Mercy
The Circle of Mercy is a group of people interested in helping make it possible for young women to attend Mercy High School by providing scholarships and tuition assistance. Their support may be structured as an endowed scholarship fully funded or funded over time. It can also take the form of a financial commitment over a specific period of time (usually 4 years or more), to be used for tuition assistance. This special group of donors will be acknowledged in a special section of our Annual Report. Donors who establish endowed scholarships or make a long-term commitment to financial assistance may be able to meet the specific student that they are sponsoring.
